AMNION PROPERTIES

So, what exactly is in amnion?

  • Collagen-types IV (all basal lamina, laminins & fibronectin) V, (most interstitial tissues) and VII (epithelia)
  • Collagen is the major protein comprising the Extracellular Matrix (ECM).  The ECM is comprised of 3 major classes of biomolecules: structural proteins (collagen and elastin), specialized protein (fibrillin, fibronectin & laminins) and glycosaminoglycans (GAGS).  Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is among the GAGs which can be found in Type I, III & V collagens as well as the fibronectin.
  • Growth factors include epidermal (EGF), transforming (TGF) and fibroblast growth factors (FGF).

This tissue is regulated under 21 CFR Part 1271 Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act.
